We enjoyed a magical evening walking in the fog...it felt like another world.

Style Icons continued...

, originally uploaded by olive evening.

I fell in love with this Mayle dress at the Blonde Redhead concert. I was living in Italy at the time and missed out on this dress. Does anyone know the name of the yellow dress?

I love the original Sun bag! I bought the later version. The size and strap of this version are perfect. I saw it only once on Ebay four or five years ago, but it was dingy. Oh, and I love PJ Harvey!

                                                                                         Kazu! Just beautiful!

Beatrice Valenzuela

Jeana's latest Closet Visit featured Beatrice Valenzuela, a shoe designer and hair stylist. I have completely fallen in love with her hand made shoes. I would love to get a matching pair for Olive and I.

My Five Daily Essentials

One of my favorite bloggers Joyce of Search Party tagged me in her recent 5 Things post. Ok, so there are more than five essentials pictured here. The glasses count as one to me, because they are in constant rotation. Here are my top five daily essentials, which are usually stuffed with the rest of my twenty other things in my tortured Mayle Billie Bag:

1. First thing i do in the morning after i wash my face is slather Calendula Cream by Jurlique. I have crazy sensitive skin and it works wonders for me. I blogged about my lipstick by Lipstick Queen a while back and i have been wearing it every day since. It is the prettiest rose color.

2. Eyewear: Probably my favorite pair of sunglasses so far are my Super Sunglasses. My glasses are by Paul  Smith for Oliver Peoples...i am bored of them and ready for a new pair.

3. Filofax Pocket Organizer: I never leave home without it! I bought it six years ago at the Venice Biennale and i refill it every year. I love the multi-colored stripes and the pinup girl on the button!

4. BRVTVS Porcia Bracelet: I got the bracelet for my birthday last year from my best friend. The gold cone slightly moves around the wrist during the day. I love it!

5. Seiko Quartz Watch: It was my obachan's watch, and my mother gave it to me the summer my obachan past away. I have been wearing it since I was 17 years old. Last year my mother took it back to Japan and had it cleaned. She also had the leather band replaced it was falling apart.

* Tag time! I am curious to see Tina, Sholeh, Michelle and Natasha's Top Five Daily Essentials!

* Thank you Joyce for the tag!

Oui Oui Oui

I have been addicted to neutral color shoes for a while now. The color of a nude shoe goes with almost everything. No wonder my grandma had so many neutral color shoes, it all makes sense now. These Repetto ballerines are the perfect shades of neutral.

Ding Dang Dong!

Found these vintage hand bells at a thrift store, which were made in Japan. I thought it would be a great activity for my daughter, and of course Olive loves them!  I am starting to loathe them. At least they are cute.

Calypso Sale

I always look forward to the Calypso sale you never know what gem you will find. Seriously, where can you buy a pair of Swedish Hasbeens for under $50! They have a few sweaters by Le Mont St Michel which are worth splurging on since there is an additional 50% off the sale price. Yay! And I am sort of in love with the grey v neck sweater by I Love My T's.

Note: The sale ends today!

Le Cooking

Here is my egg! A little over cooked but it was a fair attempt. I topped them off with crème fraîche, sautéed onions and mushrooms. Truly a simple recipe. I love this cookbook by Françoise Bernard it was written in the 1960's and the cookbook has been used in french home cooking for decades.

My second attempt of being a super chic French cook is from I Know How to Cook by Ginette Mathiot. The croque monsieur with ham is right up my alley. (I will have it ready for lunch friend *)
I love the illustrations in the book.

...and here are some more treats to make from this cookbook.
.
Yum!

Downtime

Now that my crazy week is over and I won't bore you with specifics, I have been having a slow and relaxing three day weekend. My mother-in-law is taking care of Olive and I am always shocked how quiet the house is! (i love it) My husband and I went on a "date night" if you count going to the nursery at a Home Depot date night I will take it any time. I did get dressed up and I even wore heels. However, my husband sufficiently dressed like a fisherman fishing for cactus.
After watching the Golden Globes I ended the night with a spot of tea and some reading. Yes! An excellent evening indeed.

Breakfast For Deux

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I even go to bed anticipating it! With that being said, often, it is the most overlooked meal of the day. When I do get a chance, I like to steal a weekday morning for Tartine. Weekday, because the weekends are crazy! There is really non other like their banana cream tart. With just a hint of caramel and the perfect combo of crisp and soft, sometimes it is just too good to share!

Fabric 8

You know that thing, you dream of having as child, but take less seriously as you get older and eventually forget it? Sometimes that very thing, is the most obtainable! And a sewing machine for Christmas it was! Now, my sewing skills may be less than obtainable but that has not stopped me from indulging on vintage fabrics. Inspired by the fabrics from grandma's trunk, most of my yardage is from the 60's and 70's. Mixing soft flowery prints with geometric ones seems like a fun direction and good transition!
